  I think the most important lesson you learn as a college student, isn't so much the one from a text book. It's the one you learn from within. You learn to be resilient in the face of adversity. You learn to be graceful under less than optimal situations. You learn to "suck it up buttercup" and carry on to the next day. And each day that you wake up and have another day is a win. It's not about comparing what you have or don't have with someone else - it's how to make the best of YOUR OWN circumstances. What are your goals? What are you doing to make them your reality? How much are you willing to sacrifice in order to make those dreams come true? And when something becomes a roadblock, how do you figure out the path to either go around it or make a new path? Those are the lessons you face as a student. And quite honestly, those are the lessons of life too.
Foreign language wasn't an option for me this summer after all. I have a dog who has been needing a bit more care than usual over the past several months, and being away for 14-15 hour days wasn't going to be in his best interests (which is really my best interests). I will have to figure out another solution to this one year requirement of foreign language for my degree. And work is once again proving to be a challenge being there full time. Again....suck it up buttercup and make the best of it. I really want that mini-vacation to the ocean in August, so that is my focus. This figuring out how to make the best of my here and now is also filtering into my paintings. I'm making peace with the desert and figuring out the light and how it graces the landscape surrounding me - instead of wishing I was at the ocean or someplace else. Wishing for the proverbial greener grass doesn't allow you to appreciate what you have in your life. And this is my reality. Make the best of it. Here comes a shameless plug.... For my Tucson peeps, I have a couple of paintings on display at Aaron Brothers Framing Store by the Foothills Mall. These paintings are for sale if interested. Also, Aaron Brothers has GONGA art supply sales - like buy one canvas, get two free - and they sell all the major brands of supplies. And if you have artwork that needs framing, Sandy and Theresa are pros at their job. They make my artwork look FABULOUS! Plus....I can get hard to find art supplies there. Like stuff I can't normally get even online - Aaron's will have it. Did I mention the coupons? Yeah...they have a plethora of coupons too that help with that starving artist budget. PLUS... (and this is truly the best part) they really "get" artists and listen to you. Can't say enough about this store. I think I'm going to conclude this post right here. Positive thoughts outward...positive inward. Do something good for someone this week.
