Good morning Sunshines!!! One would think that I've had coffee set up on an IV drip into a major artery...but nope! I'm just full of creative energy right now! I went to an early bird sale at Cultivate Tucson. What is that? Let me take this from their website:
"...we build pop-up events & plant the seeds for a new type of honest, creative community. Our goal is to introduce makers, small businesses & non-profits to each other in order to foster collective empowerment, creative initiative & community growth. We aim to showcase Tucson's very best independent makers & shops, while creating a connection point for the community to come together." Cool, huh? So now I'm trying to light a fire under my son's posterior to get going with the things he makes to maybe apply for the next market! My artwork and his forged pieces? Would be awesome. And honestly, it's really great to be around so many creative people. As an artist, you feed off of each other's energy. And it's positive energy too! The market was held in a part of Tucson that I'm not real familiar with - area just south of downtown. I'm still on the hunt for a creative space of my own to be able to live and work, walk my dog and go for bike rides, without having to lug my bike up and down a couple of flights of stairs. I don't think that's asking for a lot. Oh and be affordable too. Maybe I've just tipped the scale on that last one, huh? Sigh! Positive outward, positive inward. I'm hoping that still is going to work for me! I've started painting again. I'm working on truly finishing up the two cradled panels I started this past semester in class - I say truly, because I "finished" them for critique, but they weren't actually done. Like put my signature on them done. Yes....there's a difference. Done means the sides are painted and there isn't anything else I would paint, so then I can sign the work! I had this great idea to work on a new technique this summer too - pouring. It's where you mix acrylic paint with a pouring medium and it makes swirls and abstract designs in the non-mixing different colors of paint. But...the medium is hard to find and it's expensive. Plus, it takes a lot of paint to do one piece and there's waste of the paint too (as it drips off the sides). I posted a couple of photos of what it looks like. I'm thinking of just focusing on a couple of plein air paintings of the cactus, to try and come up with my own cohesive body of work involving light and traditional painting. And I have so much canvas at my house, I really want to create a couple of larger stretched canvases too. I always seem to work small. I'd like to challenge myself to work big. But again, all this takes space and that seems to be truly lacking in my current day-to-day. I asked at school if there was a studio I could use during summer and I was told no. Allllll that space on campus (and believe me, campus is a regular ghost town during the summer months) and not one studio is available for me to be able to paint in it? Okay. I'll figure it out. I always do. I was asked to collaborate on painting silk fabric to make a special garment. Cool, right? We talked about doing abstract watercolor-like painting on the fabric - like what I do with some of my watercolor "doodles". If this comes to fruition, you'll be the first to hear about it. Plus I'm sure, I'll be posting photos of the process too. How can I not? It's another way art is used, and to be asked to collaborate is very exciting. Well, that's it for me. I have another week of freedom, then class begins at Pima on 5/30. I'm looking forward and focusing on positivity in all things. To be otherwise is not an option. Have a great week everyone and do good things!
